BEIJING (AP) ? Google Inc. said Friday it will close a music download service in China, further reducing its presence in the world's most populous Internet market two years after the company closed its mainland search engine in a dispute over censorship and computer hacking.
Google said the 3-year-old service failed to achieve the market impact it wanted and will be shut down Oct. 19.
The service, which was available only to computers with an Internet address in mainland China, was intended as a legal alternative to Chinese pirate music sites. It shared advertising revenues with global and Chinese music companies that have seen their potential sales undercut by rampant unlicensed copying.
"The impact of this product is not as great as we expected, so we decided to shift resources to other products," said an announcement on Google's company blog.
A Google spokesman said he could not provide information about revenues or the service's number of users.
Google's share of China's search market has dwindled but the company says it still makes money selling advertising on its global sites to Chinese customers. Google's Android mobile phone operating system also is widely used in China.
Google, based in Mountain View, California, closed its mainland search engine in China in 2010 after saying it no longer wanted to cooperate with Beijing's Internet censorship following hacking attacks traced to China.
In June, the company added a feature to warn users whose accounts it believes are targets of "state-sponsored attacks."
Mainland Web surfers can use Google's Chinese-language search engine in Hong Kong, which is Chinese territory but has Western-style civil liberties. However, the communist government's Internet filters make access slow.
In May, the Hong Kong search site added a feature that warns users in China who enter search keywords that might produce blocked results. The move had the potential to irritate Chinese authorities who try to conceal their efforts to control access to online material.
Google had 15.7 percent of China's search market in the second quarter of the year, well behind local rival Baidu Inc., which had 78.6 percent, according to Analysys International, a research firm in Beijing. Another local rival, Sogou, was a distant third with 2.9 percent.
Baidu launched a competing music download service last year.
China's government promotes Internet use for business and education but tries to control what its people see online.
The number of people online in China rose to 538 million as of the end of July, up 11 percent from a year earlier, according to an industry group, the China Internet Network Information Center.

* Issue has downsides for both candidates
* Prices edge up, but market still troubled
* "Like rolling rock up the hill"
By Andy Sullivan
LAS VEGAS, Sept 20 (Reuters) - If pocketbook issues are the main focus of the U.S. presidential election, President Barack Obama and Republican rival Mitt Romney have remarkably little to say about a topic that directly affects most voters: the still-dismal housing market.
The two candidates battle daily over taxes, gas prices and job creation, but as they make their final pitch to voters before the Nov. 6 election, they have been largely silent on housing, which accounts for one-sixth of the economy.
"Neither one wants to explain themselves because any explanation is going to be unpleasant," said Richard K. Green, a public policy professor at the University of Southern California.
Some of the worst housing markets happen to be in key swing states, like Nevada and Florida, where Obama and Romney make frequent stops in their final two months of campaigning.
Obama can point to some progress in refinancing and foreclosure relief efforts, but even his campaign acknowledges he has not done enough.
Romney has been haunted by his remark last year that the foreclosure process should be allowed to "hit bottom," and he did not release a housing plan until earlier this month. Long on rhetoric and short on details, it calls for many of the approaches that Obama is already taking.
For both candidates, the downsides are clear. The problem is massive and dauntingly complex, and action to help struggling homeowners could stir a backlash from neighbors who have kept up with their mortgage payments.
Five years after the housing market's collapse touched off the 2007-09 recession, $7 trillion in household wealth has vanished and neighborhoods across the country are still pockmarked with boarded-up houses.
Although home prices are edging upward in many markets, they are unlikely to return to pre-bust levels for years.
HUGE DRAG ON THE ECONOMY
The stagnant housing market amounts to a massive drag on the economy as shell-shocked homeowners postpone major purchases as they try to rebuild their wealth.
One-quarter of all homeowners are effectively trapped in their houses because they owe more than their homes are worth, eliminating their ability to move to areas where they might find work. Unemployment in the construction sector stood at 11 percent in August, well above the national average.
While Obama acted boldly to stem the recession and prop up industries like banking and auto manufacturing when he took office in 2009, he has been less bold when it comes to housing.
As home values plunged and foreclosures skyrocketed, his economic team spent two years tweaking programs to modify and refinance existing mortgages that did not address the problem on a comprehensive basis.
Fewer than 2 million households have taken part in programs aimed at lowering mortgage rates or reducing monthly payments, far short of the administration's goal of 9 million.
Obama has stepped up his efforts over the past year, but regulators, mortgage lenders and Republicans in Congress have blunted many of his efforts. One plan that would have forgiven debt owed by struggling homeowners - a controversial approach that many experts say is the only way to fix the problem - was blocked by the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency in July.
The Federal Reserve has driven home mortgage rates to record lows by injecting money into the economy through its bond-buying programs. Most economists polled by Reuters think the latest round, announced last week, will not give a substantial boost to the housing market.
U.S. home resales rose in August to their highest rate in more than two years, and groundbreaking on new homes also climbed, data on Wednesday showed, signs that a budding housing market recovery is gaining traction.
Although the worst of the crisis has passed, the market remains deeply troubled. Some 190,000 properties get a foreclosure notice each month - more than twice as many as before the crisis hit, according to RealtyTrac, a real-estate research firm. Many of those who have gotten government help have subsequently fallen behind on their payments again.
"It's kind of like rolling the rock up the hill over and over again," said RealtyTrac Vice President Daren Blomquist.
Many Obama supporters are inclined to give him a pass on the issue. They note that the housing market collapsed under his predecessor, Republican President George W. Bush, and say he would doubtless be doing more if Republicans would cooperate.
"I honestly believe he's trying to help. He's trying to get money to the people who are underwater," said retiree Michele Gates at an Obama campaign event in Las Vegas last week.
In areas like Las Vegas that have been hit especially hard, Obama promises to expand his efforts if he wins re-election.
"My administration has already helped more than a million responsible homeowners refinance their mortgages and I'm running to give more like them the chance to refinance," he told a crowd of 8,000 at the city's convention center.
Elsewhere, Obama mentions the subject only in passing as he touts the achievements of his first term and lays out his agenda for a second term. In his stump speech, Obama promises to hire more teachers, boost manufacturing jobs and expand natural-gas production if he wins the election, but he makes no new promises on housing.
Campaign aides dispute the notion that Obama is avoiding the topic. They say he speaks about housing in states like Nevada and Florida where it is a concern of voters, even if he does not work it into every speech.
FEW TOOLS LEFT IN KIT
"The president is the first to say that this is an issue where there's more that needs to be done," spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. Obama "is happy to put his record and the efforts he's made to improve the housing market up against Mitt Romney's any day of the week."
Romney told a Las Vegas newspaper last year that the foreclosure process should be allowed to "hit bottom" - a view shared by many market experts who say that efforts to slow the foreclosure rate only prolong the pain. Democrats say the comment shows that Romney does not care about struggling homeowners, and he has frequently had to clarify those remarks in return visits to the state.
Romney's stance is not as simplistic as Democrats would suggest. He has expressed support for refinancing assistance and said lenders should not be allowed to peddle exotic loans that were widespread before the crash.
His housing plan, released earlier this month, calls for selling off vacant homes owned by the government, helping troubled homeowners avoid foreclosure, streamlining regulations and reforming the government-owned finance companies that underpin much of the mortgage market.
The plan contains few details and echoes many approaches already under way. When pressed for specifics, Romney points to programs that Obama has put in place.
"There's a federal program that helps people refinance homes and receive lower interest rates," he told an NBC affiliate in Reno, Nevada, in July. "That's already there for folks."
Like Obama, he has not made housing part of his stump speech. Critics say his silence on the issue undercuts his claim that he is the best candidate to fix the economy.
No matter who wins the White House in November, the problem is not likely to go away soon. E conomists say any rise in home values is likely to be modest as long as wages stay flat.
Millions of mortgages remain at risk of foreclosure, and consumers who struggled to pay their bills during the recession are less likely to qualify for a mortgage in the years to come. Efforts to boost the market, from loosened monetary policy to tax credits for new buyers, may have run their course.
"I don't think either side has good ideas that are going to be catchy," said Robert Van Order, a professor of finance and economics at George Washington University. "There aren't that many tools left in the kit."

In our regular safety video reviews, we ask our readers to share their favourite safety videos with us, and quite often we get some really great suggestions. One of the suggestions we received last week was submitted by Sarah-Jane O?Brien, a video titled ?Why safety is number one.? Within the first few seconds of watching, we were interested in her story. It was different from what we had seen before ? simple and straightforward and at the same time very real and meaningful.
After watching her video, we were curious to find out what it is that Sarah-Jane does every day to improve workplace safety, what the story is behind her safety journey, and what motivated her to make a career in safety.
Before we hear from Sarah-Jane, have a look at the short video below:
?
?
In her video Sarah-Jane says that one of the reasons why she works in safety is that she has four friends that were injured at work. Permanently. And all in their early 20s. Sarah-Jane was willing to share their stories with us.
?About the four friends that were permanently injured featured on my video,? she says?
1. ?A friend who was 20 at the time as an apprentice builder fell off a roof and became a paraplegic ? he was never told he had to wear a harness.
2. ?A friend who was 19 was working on a ferry, and the rope got caught around his leg, as the ferry went, he was amputated from below the knee ? he never thought this would ever happen.
3. ?A friend who was 22 got early onset of arthritis of the back due to lifting air conditioners ? he never knew what damage he was doing and now speaks to as many people as possible about the dangers of incorrect lifting.
4. ?A friend who was 23 was fixing a machine, his foot got caught in the machine as it wasn?t locked out, and nearly lost his foot. ?He now has no feeling in his foot ? he didn?t know about locking out of machinery.
Modern Safety: Can you tell us briefly about your safety experiences in the past?
I?ve been a safety professional for the past 10 years in Australia. I started originally in human resources in a manufacturing plant, and nobody was doing anything with safety, so I took it on. ?At the same time I was reading a safety book called ?Lessons from Longford? by Andrew Hopkins and fell in love with safety; it just made sense to me.
Since then, I?ve been managing safety for different organisations and learning as much as I possibly can as I go and, two master degrees later, I?m where I am today.
Modern Safety: Riskology Consulting is your brainchild. Can you tell us about your vision for Riskology, and what is it that you do?
Riskology is a safety consultancy based in Australia. I work with businesses to ensure they comply with the legislation and are aiming towards continuous improvement to reduce and eliminate incidents.
My vision for Riskology is to ensure that good health and safety management is attainable for all businesses, no matter how small. ?Incidents don?t discriminate based on the size or success of ?a business, nor how experienced the staff in managing health and safety. The small size of a business, should not stop them from getting the same quality of advice that larger organisations can afford.
I also believe that safety doesn?t have to be the nerdy cousin in the corner. I love the idea that safety can be sexy, marketed and relatable, thus capturing the hearts and minds of workers.
Modern Safety: What are some of the common problems you see?
Sometimes smaller businesses are the ones most at risk of incidents, often being family run and/or operating out of a backyard. These are the business that can?t afford professional assistance but are often the most at risk.
On the other hand, many larger businesses have become so complicated with so much red tape, that health and safety management is put in the too hard basket, as it?s become just too cumbersome to tackle.
Modern Safety: You have a broad range of experiences working in many industries. How was your role different working in a food industry versus automotive industry?
Generally, each industry has its different motivations. The car industry puts customer service and sales first, whereas the food industry puts food quality first. The challenge is in getting these businesses to realise that safety should also be a major priority.
I also find uncanny the similarities in safety management in apparently disparate businesses. ?Managers tend to follow directions from a Safety Manager, but they often have neither the knowledge nor the confidence to take safety by the horns and run with it. I believe if you give managers information on where they are on their safety journey, where they need to be and how to get there, they start to understand the benefits of good safety and get on board. If the managers start running safety themselves, the battle is half won.
Modern Safety: After working for large corporations what was it that motivated you to start your own company?
It was actually for love. I moved from the big smoke to the country where senior roles in safety are few, so I moved into consulting earlier than I had originally planned. This opened my eyes to the need for assistance in safety management in small businesses. I could see a way to help these companies and with this belief, I went out on my own and haven?t looked back.
Modern Safety: What are the challenges of running your own company versus managing safety for a larger organization?
Managing safety for larger organisations, I have found that I get to understand intimately how a business runs, the level of knowledge they have, the culture challenges and where on the safety journey they are. ?I can draw out that path for them and see them grow and develop on their safety journey.
Coming in as a consultant, however, it is essential to hit the ground running, achieve deliverables, then walk away. You don?t necessarily see strategies through to finish and you don?t see the statistics and culture improve, but you do walk away with the assurance that the company now has the knowledge and strategies to address safety competently and efficiently.
Modern Safety: How can you describe your contribution to improving workplace safety today?
My contribution to improving workplace safety today is in addressing safety in all companies, regardless of size and profit. Safety in small companies is just as important as in the big companies. There are lots of exciting things happening on the horizon for Riskology where we will continue to move into that space of small business assistance and mentoring.
We want to thank Sarah-Jane for sharing her video with us, that inspired this post, and wish her good luck and remarkable safety successes in her future!

Considerable ink has been spilled in recent weeks over the growing threat Al Qaeda fighters pose to the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. One of the many arguments being put forward for why the United States should not supply more direct assistance to Syrian rebels is that a rebel victory could result in Al Qaeda or its sympathizers coming to power in a post-Assad Syria. Given how Afghanistan?s US-supported mujahideen later morphed into Al Qaeda and the Taliban, the Obama administration?s caution is understandable.
Yet ironically, this view transforms Al Qaeda into one of Mr. Assad?s most effective assets. For the Syrian regime, the jihadist challenge in Syria is small yet growing, but the prospect of the US providing rebels with surface-to-air capabilities, a no-fly zone, or more direct assistance presents an existential threat. If Al Qaeda?s presence is deterring US policymakers from getting further involved in the Syrian crisis, then it may be a presence that the Assad regime finds well worth preserving.
OPINION: Four things Syria must do after Bashar al-Assad
The other problem with focusing too much on the prospect of an Al Qaeda ascension is that the costs of inaction in Syria are woefully underrepresented in the policy debate. Even if the rebels ultimately prevail, if the US continues to sit on the sidelines as the human toll rises, it could face a decidedly anti-American government in Damascus whether jihadists come to power or not.
For the Assad regime, Al Qaeda?s presence in Syria not only serves to fend off external threats (like US intervention), it reduces one of Assad?s many internal threats: the defection of Syrian minorities to the rebels' side. Jihadists consider the minority Alawites (who dominate the Assad regime) and Druze (whose support is being sought both by Assad and the opposition) to be heretics, subject to the punishment of death. The historic animosity between these groups and Syrian Sunnis is probably enough on its own to keep them loyal to Assad. But a jihadist death-sentence goes a long way toward squelching any remaining doubts.
After witnessing how Christians fared against Al Qaeda in Iraq, Syria?s Christian community is not giving the rebels the benefit of the doubt, and instead is operating as though a rebel victory means that Muslim extremists ? or at minimum, a decidedly anti-minority government ? will come to power. Most remain with Assad for now, but the more that the rebellion takes on an Islamist hue, the less likely those Syrian minorities will turn on Assad.
Of course, the prospect of Al Qaeda or other extremists coming to power, or having influence on a post-Assad regime would also be a nightmare for US regional interests. So that scenario should be factored into policy calculations, even if it is unlikely at this time. Yet the amount of attention that this scenario is receiving, especially in US intelligence circles, suggests that the magnitude of its effect on policy formation may be disproportionate to its likelihood.
Focusing on Al Qaeda?s potential for exploiting the Syrian conflict distracts from the rapidly mounting costs of US inaction. As Washington dithers, resentment of America is growing among the Syrian population and the broader Middle East. These are not potential costs; they are mounting costs.
Anti-US sentiment weakens America?s regional allies and empowers its enemies ? like Al Qaeda. US influence on the Arab-Israeli issue, nascent Arab political reform, and even the future of Iraq is diminishing. Without clearer US engagement, the conflict in Syria will likely drag on. The longer it does, the more time Assad has to visit brutality upon the Syrian population ? and the more likely would-be US supporters will turn in frustration to other sources of protection.
OPINION: Five things international community must give Syria after Bashar al-Assad
The possibility of US arms and training for the Syrian opposition somehow empowering Al Qaeda is frightening, but so too is the establishment of any post-Assad regime that is hostile to US interests. If policymakers let fears of Al Qaeda keep them from providing more extensive support for Syrian rebels, they could help create the very conditions they were assiduously trying to avoid.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? Google has snapped up the digital photo editing service Snapseed as part of its effort to compete against Facebook's online social network.
Snapseed is the centerpiece of Google's acquisition of Nik Software, which developed the service's photo-editing technology.
The deal announced Monday gives Google a popular service that competes against Facebook's Instagram, whose tools are widely used to display, touch up and share photos taken on smartphones and tablet computers.
Facebook bought Instagram for $715 million in a deal that closed last month.
Google Inc. didn't disclose the terms of the Nik Software acquisition.
Snapseed could be used to increase usage of Google Plus, a social networking alternative to Facebook.
Although it has grown rapidly since its debut nearly 15 months ago, Google Plus is still experimenting with different features aimed at getting Web surfers to check into the service more frequently.
Google Plus now has about 400 million accountholders, according to a post Monday by Vic Gundotra, a Google executive who oversees the service. About 100 million users come to Google Plus each month, Gundotra said. Facebook boasts 955 million active users.
Nik Software says more than 9 million people use Snapseed's application for the iPhone and iPad.
Apple Inc., the maker of iPhone and iPad, named Snapseed as its "application of the year" in 2011.
Nik Software is based in San Diego, nearly 500 miles away from Google's Mountain View headquarters.

>>> governor romney in the latest from him. the campaign reporter has been following the governor. you were there last night when the breaking news went down. you got the final question. i believe it was only three that governor romney took in response to this red-hot video out. he did not seem really prepared to respond to your questions. that's one note. but also in the same breath he seemed to not back down. where does his campaign stand on this clearly, garrett ?
>> good afternoon. basically the campaign has made a decision to go ahead and own these comments. they're trying to link them to the comments governor romney regularly makes publicly in which he says the president is trying to expand this idea of an entitlement society or welfare state . although he admitted last night he said it inelegantly. my question last night, i asked governor romney whether these comments coming out on tape yesterday as well as comments that have been previously reported from a fund-raiser, another fund-raiser in florida several months ago in which he laid out the policy details, why was there some discrepancy in his tone and policies behind closed doors versus in public. we have to push back a little bit on that. his answer on this he's taking process questions about the state of the campaign. they're spending their hard-earned dollars to fund his campaign asking him how he might win. those aren't what you usually talk about on the stump. folks funding the campaign get a more complete answer. he didn't address the question about policy and why he might be talking in more detail behind closed doors than out informant open.
>> he absolutely did, garrett . it's interesting today a number of of his surrogates have been on msnbc and other networks, and they don't have a consistent message. you had governor sanunu on and he blamed the current administration for class warfare and congressman allen west saying the same thing that governor romney articulated. these weren't necessarily elegant comments. nevertheless there's not a consistent response from the governor or hez surrogates he unleashed today to deal with the firestorm.
>> the conversation with the senior adviser on the romney campaign plane which just landed in salt lake city for another fund-raiser today, one of the senior advisers basically said they're looking for this to blow over in the next couple of days. they think they -- the most dynamic of any of the videos, the most explosive potential comments have come out. they were able to sort of continue a little bit last night by doing the press conference, and in the last two days they try to get back on their primary message about jobs and the economy and hope the media gets tired of the story.
>> garrett , thank you. i don't know if people will get tired because the entire video has not been released yet. this is what our first read team is calling ail brutal last three weeks for the governor. joining me now is michael sirkonish and ann cornbloom and chris cofinus. garrett haake says the romney campaign is hoping this will somehow blow over. what are the chances?
>> well, they can dare to hope. i think this is going to be one that will take a little longer than day or two to blow over. that has been their strategy at times in the past and hasn't always worked, but i don't think we've seen an incident that's reverberated as much as this one has. we see them proceeding. he's going to make public remarks later today going on tv. he hasn'ter altered his campaign schedule. this is not what they wanted to talk about this week. they wanted to release new ads and talk about the new details on some of the policies. that's out the window at least for now.
>> he's supposed to talk with fox news a little later, perhaps seen as a more friendly territory if we can gang thiuge things that way these days. one of the reasons it won't go away for the governor is the fact of the story. he referred to 47% not paying income tax . as pointed on msnbc politico has an arg. the number is actually 46%, but here's the insight of that number. half of nonpayers little, too little to pay taxes. half of them get through tax deductions and exemptions according to the tax policy center . 44% use tax deductions to help the elderly. 30% use tax deductions that aid the working poor . they use an example of a family earning $26,000. after $11,000 of standard deduction and four $3,000 exemption, they have no taxable income . many pay federal payroll, excise tax and state and income taxes . these people are not as they were referred to by governor are not getting away and getting a free ride through life. many of these are so-called poor in our country.
>> i think that's the critical distinction. i'll use the word. he didn't, but this is the meaning of his statement. they are not the malingers he made them out to be. the way i expressed it on the radio today is more than 80% of that percent are elderly or working poor who pay payroll taxes . an additional fact is a number of reason why is by virtue of bush tax cuts one of the tradeoffs was to reduce the taxable earnings -- the taxes paid by those low income earners. you can blame the sponsors of the bush tax cuts if you're upset over the fact that some of these folks aren't paying taxes. one other fact, tamron. the question remains will the 47% figure out he's talking about me? what's stunning is i hear from a number of callers who are in that group and don't regard themselves as much.
>> why is that, michael ? when you talk about welfare by race, because a the lot of people, when you go on the blogs, believe he's talking about blacks and he's talking about hispanics. we know the statement made at the naacp and then after it at a fund-raiser, the governor said if you want something free, vote for the other guy. 34% are white, 22% black, 17% hispanic and 20% unknown. i'm not sure what that means. if you look at this through a prism of shoi he is trying to separate and peel apart people based on anger. let's say he's appealing to the angry white male voter who white somehow be the difference in november. these people fall into the category of working poor , of people who needed assistance as a result of the economy taking the nosedive before the current administration even took over.
>> yes. there's a bit of the -- of what's the matter with kansas factor if you know what i'm saying to all of this. i'm hearing from a social security retirees who thinks he's not in that category. that's not who i am. this has invagted both bases. in other words, as offensive as these comments might seem to many of us, it's invigorated a conservative base that's anxious to say something like this. what do the 5% to 10% as mitt romney described as thoughtful, what do they say? there's blow back against it. all of the conservative writers say he ought to own it, and they are backing the governor even though he's not backing his own words. there are many today compares this moments to when the president was caught on taup during the last election cycle saying people cling to their religion and guns. how is this givent if at all.
>> i don't think it's comparable for a couple of reasons. when the president made the remarks it didn't go into a narrative. you see this in your election and in it particular key questions in polls. which candidate stands up for the middle class ? when you see this in a private moment from a fund-raiser from governor romney and how cold and callous it comes across, regardless he can argue what the facts are or not, the reality is he perverted the facts. when you look at the approach to it, it turns off those independent, undecided moderate voters that decide this election. this fits into a narrative that for months has been building. building because in the obama campaign it's very effective at framing governor romney on it. more importantly because governor romney through his words and actions and his policies feeds into it, and this is just the latest exclamation mark .
>> ann, you have "new york times" david brooks wrote this column, thurston howell romney . he wrote the people that receive a disproportionate share of money, they are white men with high school degrees. basically pointing out to what michael said. a lot of people that may not believe they're in this category that mitt romney referred to during this off-camera moment. joe scarborough said something this morning. we know where he stands and he's a conservative. he talked about the waiters in the video. those are the very people perhaps that fall into this description of governor romney if he was elected president, he would be president of all people. it sounds as if he's playing to a certain group, and that night that group paid $50,000 a plate to have that amen moment with the republican nominee.
>> it's interesting because david brooks said this is what millionaires tell each other. i wasn't aware of that until i read the column. it's hard to say if governor romney was pandering to the group and he was repeating or saying something he believes. con flating the popularity of president obama , about half the country that doesn't pay the federal income tax . i suspect we won't get a complete dissection of his remarks from governor romney . he sounds like he said what he's going to say, which is that he wants to talk about people --
>> i don't know about that. he has an interview coming up, michael . last night you could see the unease and obvious reasons why. this tape comes outs and he needs to get out. at this point, michael , what would you advise the governor foo to say in this sper view he's got up. he's already said what he was going to say? what would you advise at this point. president obama had the opportunity regarding guns and religion. how does romney go beyond what he said on that tape?
>> i don't think he can. i think he dug himself in last night when he had that hastily arranged availability and stort of double downed on it. tamron, for the second time in a week he's embraced the worst narrative about the president. with regard to cairo and libya, he bought into the international lore that obama was a sympathizer and pop gist. then last night i saul him embracing this notion that everybody that supports the president is ap malinger. that's the commonalty.

Last Thursday Casey and I were out enjoying another day of fishing our awesome New Brunswick waters. We were heading for New Horton Lake for a while and then later in the afternoon we would fish the Shepody river for a few rainbow trout.
Here in Moncton there was no wind at all so I thought I would bring my fly rod with me. It's so much fun catching smallmouth bass on the fly rod.
I had a few boxes of flies and my fly rod out with my regular fishing gear when Casey arrived but my hopes of fly fishing were dashed when Casey told me how windy it was at Hopewell Cape which is close to New Horton Lake.
We also planned to fishing the Shepody river for some rainbows as the river would be closed to fishing in just a couple of days. So I still brought my fly rod with my just in case the wind the stopped before our day of fishing did. Unfortunately the wind only stopped as it was dark and we were heading home.
As we drove down the path that leads to New Horton lake and came out of the trees where we could see the water we knew immediately there was a strong breeze blowing.
Not really looking good for the top water lures or fly rods but not so bad we couldn't get the boat launched.
I really like New Horton lake and enjoy the smallmouth bass and white perch. I also especially like the mile long rock that juts out into the lake. It appears to only have a few inches of soil covering but it is covered with trees. As we go by they look like the slightest wind would knock them over into the water.
The rock face continues into the water where it drops off to about 15 feet deep.
We weren't fishing long before Casey had his first smallmouth bass and then his second and third. Man Casey was on fire but with every bass he landed the wind increased and the waves got higher.
Soon it was a bit too windy to do any casting so we stuck with trolling and finally I caught a smallmouth bass and was on the board. The thing is we were only seeing little smallies. We didn't even see a single white perch which are usually eager to slap a bait.
After a few soakings from the waves, which were rather chilling, we decided it was time to leave New Horton lake and try the Shepody river for some rainbows. Casey thought we would have less wind there so we packed up and headed out.
We weren?t there very long but Casey landed six smallies to my one. So glad we stayed long enough for me NOT to be skunked. I?m think I was saying goodbye to New Horton lake for this year but look forward to fishing here again in 2013, maybe even get some use out of my fly rod.

Do you see the tea stains here?? A yearning for the good old days of Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann?
The GOP members say Romney must do a better job of communicating to voters what to expect of him, either by making a bold pledge akin to George H.W. Bush?s 1988 ?no new taxes? promise or fleshing policy proposals with more details.
Papa Bush was down after the Democratic convention in 1988, people worried he couldn?t come back and then he made his ?read my lips, no new taxes? pledge,? said one senator who requested anonymity. ...The Hill
Which of course Poppy didn't honor, once elected.? But who cares about truth when lying gets you more votes.? Sheesh!? You know these guys are really out to lunch when they say -- of Mitt Romney! -- that Mitt Romney should manage our money.
?He should say, ?I?m a money manager and I will manage your money in Washington. I will eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. Obama wants you to send more money so he can spend more money.??...The Hill
What Romney's good at is taking other people's money and business for himself and living the high life. Honest, I don't want him anywhere near what's left of my money after ten years of rule by Romney's it's-all-about-profit party.? Look where that left us...
___
It's not just discontent about Romney and money issues.? It's everything else.
Mitt Romney?s reaction to the deaths of American diplomats in Libya has Republican elders suddenly worrying he may have delivered a self-inflicted game changer to his campaign.
They won?t say so publicly, out of party loyalty and fear of retaliation. But some of these sources ? who all backed him in the primaries ? fear Romney has damaged himself by appearing to play politics with foreign policy.
?This could be a defining moment,? a prominent party elder told the Daily News. ?It?s another John McCain moment.? ...
...? These in-house critics agree it?s too early to declare Romney cooked. But they?re fearful ? and bracing for more downbeat polling news over the weekend.
The latest round of surveys were bad enough, showing Obama has opened leads in Ohio, Florida and Virginia ? and they were tallied before Romney?s comments. Most political insiders believe Romney can?t win without carrying at least two of those battleground states.
?At some point, these things pile up and raise the specter of a tipping point,? another veteran Republican strategist fretted last week. At a minimum, ?this does not qualify as positive yardage.? ...Daily News
___
Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better." ...HuffPo
Forget about all the states Romney appears to be losing, look at the Republican "base," as represented by the "Values" voters.? They didn't like him before, and it looks like "anybody but Obama" has stopped working as well as it once did.
The summit was filled with rhetoric meant to fire up the party's base voters. Romney needs them to turn out in force at the polls in November and, between now and then, to convince others to do the same through extensive get-out-the-vote grassroots canvassing in swing-voting states. To energize them, dozens of high-profile conservatives ? including former presidential candidate Rick Santorum and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor ? used their speeches to paint the 2012 race as a transformational moment in the country's history and insist that the president is turning the nation into a place its founders wouldn't recognize.Energy was high inside the hotel ballroom where the luminaries spoke.
But frustration with Romney coursed through the hallways... HuffPo
And they resent the Romney campaign for not using Ryan to greater advantage.? Many of us on the other side would love to see Ryan let loose, too, though not for the same reason.? Ryan is an enthusiastic liar of convenience when he's given enough room.? So give him plenty of room, Republicans!

If you enjoy doing things on your own, you may want to explore the world of home improvement. The following article shares tips for any do-it-yourselfer when it comes to home improvement.
Think about using bamboo flooring. Bamboo floors are quite popular and very durable. If you happen to drop something on bamboo flooring, it's very unlikely that it'll leave a mark. It's very strong and great for high-traffic, and it withstands humidity and moisture well making it perfect for bathrooms and kitchens.
Figure out where you will dump the debris. Home improvement projects, mainly those that require some kind of large improvement, make a lot of trash that can get in the way if you're not sure where you're going to put it before starting. Two options to consider are either renting a dumpster or securing a friend with a large truck.
Once your new flooring is put down, a good tip to keeping it clean is to put in a rule that no shoes should be worn on it. Provide your guests with a storage space to take off their shoes. Consider providing slippers to everyone. This will keep dirt and other various debris from getting smashed into carpet and scratching up floors.
Granite tiles instead of a full granite slab can improve your kitchen on a budget. Adding a granite slab onto your countertop could cost you thousands of dollars. Granite tiles are more reasonably priced and will cost only hundreds of dollars, rather than thousands. Tiles will provide the look of granite you want for a sliver of the price.
Clean your home with old toothbrushes. Whether you are cleaning around the faucet on the kitchen sink or bathroom lavatory or cleaning up engine parts, old toothbrushes work great. Old toothbrushes are also free! You are recycling and reusing something old without having to throw it out well before its time. Instead, use the money you would have spent on a new brush for other things.
You have to sand any wood you plan to stain and then use a damp cloth to wipe it off. Using a fine sandpaper on the surface will smooth it to an even finish. Wiping off the object afterwards will keep it smooth and get rid of dust.
If you have purchased a home that is in need of repair, start with the big projects first. Simpler projects, such as updating your bathrooms or finishing up the basement, can be performed after moving in.
Do you love the outdoors, but hate bugs? Try adding a screened enclosure onto your house. It can mean somewhere to relax and read, or for family dining, all free of insects. Ceiling fans can also be a great addition.
If you know how to do it properly, your home's lifespan will increase. This is why it's a good idea to use all of the things you have learned here to make sure your home improvement plan is solid and takes care of any issues.
The best means to update the efficiency of your house is home replacement windows Wichita.

You Are Here: Home ? General News ? President Mahama directs Defence Minister to resource Military
Page last updated at Friday, September 14, 2012 17:17 PM //President John Dramani Mahama on Friday directed the Minister for Defence to assess and provide all the necessary resources that would? help step up the productivity level of the Ghana Armed Forces.
?I am aware that in spite of your good performance exhibited over the years, you have some few challenges and I will do my best to ensure that all the necessary infrastructure and logistics are provided to facilitate your activities.?
President Mahama gave this assurance during the graduation ceremony of 108 officer Cadets who had undergone regular and special duties courses at the Ghana Military Academy.
The Academy, since its establishment in April 1960,has produced over 3000 Ghanaian officers now serving in various capacities in the Armed Forces and beyond.
The Academy has also trained Cadets from sister African countries, notably Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Benin and the Gambia.
President Mahama advised the Officer Cadets to exhibit political neutrality in their professional work in order to maintain discipline.
?As new graduates of this Academy, you need to be mindful of the fact that you now have higher and greater responsibility of serving Ghana and Ghanaians.?
He advised them to be dedicated and committed to selfless service to the country and beyond in order to market themselves and Ghana in their international engagements, ?and to avoid anything that will tarnish the image of the country.?
President Mahama urged the cadets to regularly acquaint themselves with the modern trends in technology as that could help them to brace up against the advanced technological crime wave that had bedeviled the entire world.
The President called for effective collaboration amongst the security agencies that would ensure perpetual peace and security, and? create a congenial atmosphere for free and fair elections in December this year.
Prizes were awarded to all Officer Cadets who distinguished themselves in their various disciplines.
