NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Saturday marked the second annual Small Business Saturday.
It's a movement sponsored by a credit card company.
Now local toy stores, restaurants, and specialty shops, like Le Marche in Norfolk, jumped on board with their own deals.
"I think it's wonderful that American Express would bring it to the minds of the public to shop local and to spend their money in local businesses, because we are the backbone of the community and we're the ones who contribute," said store owner Donna Marie Murphy.
Donna Murphy also says Small Business Saturday seems to be working because the first two customers on Saturday were new and had never been there before.
According to the Small Business Administration, small business created 65 percent of new jobs between 1993 and 2009.
